anyone else tired of having Cribbs shoved down their throat.Has there ever been an event at the Q where hes not on the tron? He waits till they put him up,signs a few autographs, and leaves. May be ok for Gladiator games, but not for Monsters. Im a hockey fan not a Cleveland fan.I guess if youre a special teams player you have to find some way to get noticed.

I get annoyed with sports "celebrities" in general, so my invective isn't with Cribbs as much as it is with the cult of celebrity.
I did find the "Josh Cribbs Night" at the Q during that monsters game to be highly annoying. I hope they NEVER do that again. I want to watch a hockey game, not some guy who looks like he got into a traffic accident with a truckload of bedazzlers magnanimously wave to the crowd.
I'd make an exception for a Gordie Howe night.

After reading both of your posts I had to check and make sure the promotional schedule for The Monsters 2008-09 was not out yet. The Monsters had a Josh Cribbs night with a very good crowd and you guys are still bent? Amazing

Honestly I don't care too much how many fans come in. It's selfish on my part, but my attention is on the ice surface pretty much the entire game. I really dislike distractions during the game.

My sentiments exactly about the cult of celebrity.

I too wish to watch the ice the entire game. I do also realize they need to fill the seats to keep the team. As long as it doesn't negatively interfere with the game experience.

if they wanted to woo me with celebrities then why not get some hockey heroes in the q. i dont care for football and that promo i didnt care, it did bring in a good crowd but who was the crowd there for, josh cribbs? or the actual game itself? hmmm...

Not a good crowd? Were you actually at the game, obviously you weren't. There was over 10,000 at the game and before you try and come back with a line like they inflated the attendance lets subtract 2,000 which puts a crowd of 8,000 in there on the EXTREME low side of estimates which is still way over the league average there dude.

We're above average for the season by a few, but not much. Grand Rapids has dollar beers on Friday, so their numbers can be discounted for that. Hershey and Manitoba lead the league and aren't well known for silly promos (although Manitoba gave away a car last year). Rochester outdrew us and their tickets are FAR cheaper.
Cribbs at the rink reminded me of the Charlestown Chiefs doing a fashion show. It was about as natural as a bowel movement exiting a left ear.

I WAS AT THE GAME i could use a very nice adjective right here but i will refrain. football in this city reigns supreme, even more than the indians, so to bring in someone from the browns is going to get a good crowd. were you at the game for the dallas cowboys cheerleaders? were all those people there for the game or the skanks! hmmm interesting that was also a very GOOD crowd. and if you actually read my post i said it was a good crowd.

Was it the second or third period for the cheerleaders game where the seats were half-empty because the spirit bunnies from Dallas were signing autographs?
I'd support another Gordie Howe night. Maybe when Grand Rapids comes to town?

How about a NHL Cleveland Baron or WHA Cleveland Crusader reunion night? I always thought that would be something neat. I remember Gordie Howe night.. that was GREAT! i would like to see that again too!
Something like the "Legends Night" that the recent Barons did a few times. I wasn't around for the old Barons, but I remember my dad and grandpa talking about them. And I consider some of the Lumberjacks "MY" Cleveland hockey legends. Thats where I learned to love the game. Bring in somebody WE, as hockey fans can appreciate.

legends night would be great, i would luv to meet some of the old barons players or crusaders. gordie howe night, mr. hockey himself would be a lot greater than josh cribbs. i know they want to get fans in the stands and since football rules in this town, i can understand why they went with that promo but this is hockey, i wanna see hockey legends!

I found it amazing also that they seemed annoyed...Imagine if "IF" the two first posters had gone to a Monsters game with a promotion with the other teams mascot getting the honors??? Well thats crazy! We are in Cleveland!! we don't want...I want to see CLEVELAND sports players at the games. Many people want the same. It's all part of the entertainment value. Most of us will never get that close to Cribbs at a game or anywhere else. Keep up the good work...

Cribs didn't want to be there. He whined the whole time, complained within earshot of fans with his obviously un-steroid-enhanced voice and evidently hockey fans are not his crowd. Begone and don't come back-at least until you prove yourself in your own sport. I don't want him back, find someone better who actually cares.

a hockey game is entertainment enough. I go even when there's nothing being given away or any "famous" person there to wave at me.
It's good that there are hardcore hockey fans in Cleveland like yourself. However, the majority of sports fans in Cleveland aren't hockey fans. In fact, a great number of Clevelanders don't even know anything about hockey. Having Josh Cribbs night and other promotions like it gets those people in the seats that wouldn't otherwise come. Because wouldn't it be a shame for the Monsters to play in an empty arena, save for a few hundred die-hards?
i respectfully disagree. I've complained on here before that "dollar dog night" seems to draw hot dog fans more than hockey fans. I'd rather the team play at smaller arenas and focus the attention to the ice than to pack an arena with idiots and jerks there for snacks and attractions.
of the 25 or so games I went to last year, I had to move my seat on three separate occasions to get away from numbskulls acting like jerks who likely should have been ejected. they weren't even watching the game. all three games were on giveaway nights.
the upside - on two games I was on the glass by the second period.

i can understand why they have josh cribbs, since the other sports in this town reign supreme, it makes sense but i dont really care for football (said it in more than one post) or josh cribbs. its good for cleveland fans to get a sports "star" to see but for us HOCKEY fans we want to see the legends of the game, be it minor league stars, nhl legends or whatever, that is what we want. this team can and should have both nights (josh cribbs, and legends night) to make all fans happy. i understand about the numbskulls, i've sat to alot of idiots last season, more interested in getting snacks, moving around, acting like idiots making stupid comments about the game of hockey (saying that it is boring) and a couple other things but to make this team successful WE have to take that with a grain of salt and bite our tongue and just live with it. i would honestly rather sit with a crowd that had more interest in the game of hockey than a bunch of beer swilling foul mouth jerks that have no idea of what hockey is.

You have to try and cross promote though, to get people interested in the sport. People that have never been to a hockey game have no idea what it's about. You get them in for a game, and maybe some of them will come back because they had a good time. Maybe they want to learn about the sport and become fans. They have to get exposed, and it's easier when there's a reason for them to do so.
I agree that there should be stuff for hockey legends and for hockey fans. But I think a couple nights of cross promotion does help the team out and bring people in. Sure 95% of those people are only there for the football or basketball star of the moment, but maybe that other 5% are folks that will come back and be future Monsters fans.
I don't think it's that big of a deal really. It's not like it's every night. But I do think tha hansons is right in that we should get a hockey legend or two in there for fans of Hockey. Especially because a lot of folks who may have given up on hockey in Cleveland that didn't make their way back to a Monster's game might come in if they had a reason to as well.

Thats funny, last I checked Cleveland is 5th in the USA in youth hockey with 50+ high school teams in the area. Its OBVIOUS that The Monsters Management have done an excellent job filling the arena and also including youth hockey into the mix. Nice to see that packed buildings and being among the top in league attendance has you making up reasons to try and cast doubt on last years instant success in the stands.
