figured this needed its own thread. it's been exciting so far, but now it's a wings/avs playoff again. i gotta be the odd-man-out on this one and not support our team, but i'd encourage you avs fans to support the wings in the conference championships. Wink

detroit vs. colorado, that is going to be a good series and hopefully the good guys (detroit) takes care of business. no disrespect to our boys that our up playing with colorado and congrats to them for beating minnesota but i gotta go with my redwings on this one.
good luck to both teams.
as far as the rest of the playoffs go, i hope the pens take care of the rangers, dallas takes out san jose, philly or the canadiens, thats a hard one since i admire both teams, so i wont pick the winner there.

i'm hoping it's gonna be an original six stanley cup finals with detroit & montreal with detroit coming out the victor (of course).

I'm rooting for anyone but Detroit, always hated them.
I think the Habs vs the Avs will be the Cup finals

that was a close one, detroit needs to wake up. to be honest i started feeling bad for colorado when it was 4-1 but when they got back into the game i didnt feel sorry anymore i just wanted detroit to wake up and start playing. jonesy got off a couple good shots and got ridden into the boards hard (yet again).
i still think detroit is going to come out the victor, this series might have to go to a game six or even seven.
the penguins start their run with the rangers and hopefully the pens can duplicate what they did to the sens against the rangers. i cannot stand the rangers or any other team from new york city.

i don't know, that would be a good series but i still think montreal has what it takes to get to the finals, hopefully philly can take care of em though (montreal fans are real jerks) but i still respect the team.

montreal fans are jerks, but that's why it'll be fun for them to nearly miss the finals.

how about the stars getting both games in san jose, i hate the stars and pretty much any southern team but i was rooting for them to beat the ducks which they did and are now taking it to the sharks.
the pens are rolling but its going to be a tough couple @ the garden and hopefully someone will take care of avery.

It was nice seeing two monsters score on my favorite team this evening. Nice job TJ and Cody (McLeod)!

man the avs came out hard, i thought when they got the first goal they had this game in hand, i was shocked but also releived when detroit made it 2-1, i made it to the end of the 2nd before i had to go to bed (late game and was tired) with detroit leading so i had a good nights rest and come morning found out the red machine hung on for the win.
hensick, jones, mccormick, mcleod all lake erie monsters i dont think we will see most of those guys next season.
hey ned did you see the pens game? i hate jagr (even when he was with the pens) and the rangers and am glad they got beaten at home.
dallas also taking it to san jose 3-0.
it is going to be a happy day, now if the flyers can beat montreal it will be even better,
sorry ned but i gotta root for the flyers, montreal have the dumbest fans in the nhl, dumping beer on flyer players and burning down their city (figuratively speaking) just because they got through the first round.

This is CALDER CUP, not the other, but did anyone see that the Marlies just had a game 7 win (over san antonio) at home, but only 1700 people were there? that's not a typo, 300 less than 2k for a game 7 playoff.

We need to get to the playoffs next year and show the AHL how it's done.

Versus has the pens game blacked out. They're rerunning boxing matches and rodeos. I missed hockey, but discovered rodeos are kinda sweet.

If Forsberg decides he can't play, we will probably see Chris Stewart hit the ice since Hensick is already up with Smyth being down. That could mean half the lines would be monster-dominated. One of the worst teams in the AHL (record-wise, not heart of course) against the best team in the NHL in the cup playoffs. That's made for TV movie stuff right there. Go Monsters (unless it's against the Wings)!!

anyway, I read on SI that Sean Avery has a lacerated spleen and won't be back this season (which for the rangers is one more game). I want to say I wouldn't wish harm on anyone, and I don't really, but I'm not sad to hear this. It couldn't have happened to a better guy.

I can understand the support for philly, but I wanna see the habs croak hard, and the closer they get, the louder they croak.

ned is that game 4 being blacked out or... cuz i had game 3 on and it was a dandy. i'll tell you what, i am proud to see our guys up and playing with colorado i really am but my heart still lies with detroit and if they do bring stewart up, coach q is going to have to do some major shuffling to get a win out of 'em.
ha ha avery is out, THANK GOD, i hate that retard, did they say how he tore his spleen?
hopefully philly can take care of montreal tonight.
i was on the marlies board a couple of days ago and to tell you the truth i dont think they (toronto) care about the marlies, even they we're stunned there was only about 1,000+ at the games, they we're saying because the playoff schedule wasnt released with enough time or who they were actually going to play, plus it seems as if everyone in toronto are workaholics or whatever, so many excuses as to why they couldnt support the team that is actually in the playoffs, i am a toronto maple leaf fan as well and it is a shame that no one up there supports the marlies, they are a really good team.

the avs look like the monsters on one of their off nights (possibly because they have so many monsters playing - inc. wyatt smith).

franzen got a hat trick and there's a period left to play. it would be sweet if henrik got one as well before this game is over.

wow if you wanted to see what the avalanche would look like with some of our players than last nights game was it. honestly i felt like i was watching a monsters game.
colorado was outclassed last night, they had too many injuries and couldnt keep up with the red machine. i give colorado credit for not giving up, playing to the final whistle. they had a few games where it looked like they could steal some of detroits kool-aid. namely the first game and the third game, they were really close but again with all their injuries they just couldn't come away with it.
HATS OFF TO THE AVALANCHE! they played physical, whistle to whistle and didnt back down.
now for next season who thinks sakic will remain with the team, or for that matter theodore, forsberg. next season might be the year that some of the monsters make the av's squad.
GO REDWINGS! probably will play dallas. i dont think san jose has the juice left to take the series.

the most interesting thing in that series (for me) was how much the avs played like the monsters. in game 3, they came out HOT and then fizzled. with the injuries and everything else, they had about a single period of hardnosed, good hockey in most of those games.

if anything though, this series solidifies my thoughts that we won't be seeing a lot of our regulars from this year on ice in the q next season.

dallas plays detroit, that will be a tougher series for the red machine and hopefully they can take it to dallas.

I said that the whole series. Amazing, even my wife picked up on that.
Good to see Wyatt get some ice time, some pretty passes that went for naught.
Can't call the red wings the 'dead things' anymore, Franzen was the man... I guess I should have expected it but hey, it's colorado and we looked like that all year, so it is the system.

Franzen should get the playoffs' MVP. That Dallas game last night was unbearably long. I ended up just recording the end after the first OT (I know how it ends, it's okay). This will be a good series. The Wings are healthy and rested. Dallas has a GREAT netminder and some decent offense. They were too evenly matched with the Sharks, but the wings have a better defensive corps and some superhuman skill w/ Zetterberg and Datsyuk.

I'm hoping for a Pbg/Det finals (with the wings winning).

Keep an eye open on Helm for the wings. He was a Grand Rapids regular who got elevated. He's playing some good hockey.

Malkin got a Gordie Howe hat trick + 1 extra goal. Beautiful.

by the way, who do we need to lobby to get the monsters to recognize and record GHHT stats?
