well if you weren't too lazy to read , someone in a previous post as a reply to your post said nhl teams discount prices based on the teams they play . so you just proved my exact point in which they don't . they charge more not less when they play certain teams .

as far as other ahl teams charging cheaper prices - again you proved my point . you said the arenas are half the size therefore it doesn't cost as much to run the facility . if the monsters plated their home games at hoover ice arena then the tickets would be way lower . but then you would complain about hoover ice arena .

you have no clue on where i've been to see hockey games . if i don't like the prices i don't go . simple .

i'm not attacking you i'm just saying you don't have to go to the games if you don't like the prices . no one is forcing you to go . or hey if its cheaper for you to go to other arenas then keep going there . problem solved either way . it doesn't sound like your a fan of cleveland anyways .

i really don't care what you think of me either . as far as me responding to your post says nothing about me . theres no way you can define my character by that . i'm just simply responding to what your sayin - simple as that.

you can't base what is going on here by what is going on at other cities . let me ask you this question . if your employer came to you and said theres a person in grand rapids working out of his home instead of the office doing your same job for let's just say $15,000 less than what we are paying you . therefore we are going to cut your pay by $15,000 less . now going by your same theory that would be okay right ?

I keep hearing "Cleveland isn't a hockey town", but with Gilbert and the Gunds using hockey as a stopgap between basketball games, I'm not surprised.

how can it be when people are complaining about ahl prices they are ceratinly not going to support an nhl team & it's high ticket prices

True hockey fans will say that this is fine because they WANT a team in Cleveland.

Are you kidding me? The ticket prices are ridiculous, especially with this economy! Have you been to any games? The place is almost completely empty at half the games. We're not saying they have to lower prices so much that they make no profit, but surely they can drop prices to SOME extent. I guarantee you that they don't need to charge as much as $26 to be able to come out even.

It doesn't even matter when they get no one coming. Yeah, you can charge $60 for glass seats, $41 for first-row club seats, or $26 for sideline/club seats... But with such high prices, no one's going to come, which will limit profit just as much.
If they were to drop prices, they'd get more people coming to games, but be able to at least make as much (if not more). Then you've got a bigger crowd, hopefully more energy, and perhaps more wins. A better team would attract even more fans, increasing profit even more.

Besides, with the Cavs probably selling close to 20,000 tickets to each game, I'm sure a slight drop in Monsters ticket pricing wouldn't leave Gilbert or The Q in the hole.... Especially if he's got so much money to blow on 'yes on 3' advertising.

I have the half season ticket plan. I go to plenty of games. I have 21 tickets, will probably see at least 25 games this season.

I've gone to 22 games in the last two seasons. I don't have a ticket plan because it's less expensive to use the bogo promos. I told the sales rep the same and s/he agreed. I feel bad for the people working in the office sometimes.

NHL teams that are having difficulties with attendance (Florida, Tampa, Atlanta and several others) have tickets starting at $24 with free parking. I've attended games in Columbus using an old student ID and got lower bowl seats for $25 at the door.

Advocating a cheaper door would make MORE attendees and will fill EMPTY seats. If the arena were packed, my argument would be poor. I'd like to see hockey succeed in Cleveland. I'd like to see the local channels not pre-empt playoff hockey for Indians games. What the Monsters have right now isn't working.

This is a basic math issue, not a "cleveland hate" issue. BUT if you can't see that, please use the ignore feature and save yourself frustration.

So should I not compare AHL to NHL, or not compare cities to cities? What would be the appropriate comparison point? The monsters to the other cleveland AHL franchise?

you never answered my question -would it be okay for your employer to go by your theory & do that ? you seemed to dodge that . out on the west coast gas prices are alot higher than here - should gas stations here raise their prices cause the prices out there are higher ?
should your city raise their taxes cause the city next to you has higher taxes ? why doesn't mercedes or bmv lower their prices of cars cause ford and several other car companies are selling more cars for less .

it's kinda hard to tell you want hockey to succeed in cleveland by how negative you are bout everything . people can come on here and see your negative posts bout the high ticket prices and how bad the team is and go well looks like i'm not going to any games . and thats just what you say on here -i'm sure you turn off people by what you tell them in person.

of course the sales rep is going to agree with you . you dont think they get tired of people complaining to them all day about every little thing . i mean what are they suppose to say . i feel sorry for them to cause they ahve to hear about it all the time .

so keep using your little system of using your old student id ,(in which on wednesdays the monsters have college id nights so i think you get $3 off your ticket), and the bogo promo . keep goin to grand rapids cause it's cheaper but not really .

as far as what the monster have right now isn't working - they've grown in attendence each year so far and as far as i know they've had more sth this year .

you seem to go to alot of games so it's your fault and your choice you pay those prices - point blank . you don't have to .

what i'm saying is that grand rapids can afford to run things the way they do cause of the smaller arena (it doesnt cost as much )- naturally it's going to fill up seats cause there's not as many seats to fill as it does the q . just like it's cost cheaper to run or maintain your house than it does 10 story apartment building or business office .

like you said basic math . there's much more involved in running the operation .

i would to see the q sold out all the time - i would love to have an nhl team . but it won't happen because it will never be supported in cleveland . i would love nothing more than to be wrong . i mean if people complain bout the ticket prices now - what are they going to say about nhl tickets .

It doesn't matter. It's the AHL. Outside of a few bright spots with the Jacks, none of the minor league hockey teams have done well here in Cleveland. (Unless you go way back before they invented television) That's because it's minor league. The media doesn't care, people don't care, and if you ask me, most of you don't care about the AHL either. What you all really want is an NHL team to come to Cleveland and you're hoping that if enough bodies fill the AHL seats that someone will bring the NHL here. Nobody can like this AHL product, because it's just a merry-go-round of players coming and going and waiting around for their call-up. We all love hockey, but we'd all love it a lot more if we had our own NHL team. In the meantime we're scared to admit that the AHL sucks, because then Dan Gilbert might say, "Well lets just get rid of it and have Curling instead." and the NHL will laugh and say, "Haha... Told you hockey would never work in Cleveland, and now they'll NEVER get an NHL team." But forget all that. Cleveland, for all its bad, is still a major city with major league sports teams here. People aren't hungry for a team like they are in Hershey. They know that this is minor league stuff and pointless to follow because it's all dictated down from Colorado, and is designed to give them whatever they want, and not what we want.

So I can't believe that anyone at the Q or Quicken Loans Offices really expected there to be some amazing turn-out for minor league hockey. But even if that was the goal, there is just no way it'll happen when your team is in last place. The first two seasons second to last, and now we're in last. It's early, but Cleveland has enough losing teams. If you really want to try and have minor league hockey stand out and attract sell-out crowds, you don't need price drops, you need a team that is a success and winning games all the time. But even then, you'll struggle to find an audience, because this is minor league hockey in a major league arena, and a major league town. If Columbus could support an NHL team, so could we. And we'll never see the kind of numbers everyone wants until we get that league in Cleveland. Not Richfield... But Cleveland. And then you'll see bodies in seats.

Ok I'm done. I'm just as passionate as you people about this sport, but I don't want the AHL, I want the NHL. And I'll drive two hours to get it, but wish it was here.

K

#7 I can't believe how negative you are. How can it be enjoyable to live life with such a negative perspective. Just don't understand it, never will. Oh well.

Anyway our team grew in attendance two years in a row. Where did we finish last year out of 30 teams? 9th? In just our second season. I'd say a pretty good start to franchise. If i'm not mistaken they released info on last year and they also had the highest attended game in the entire AHL...two years in a row. Did they not win some award for in game entertainment in minor league?

Hockey has been absent from Cleveland for a longtime, wouldn't it make sense that the fan base would have to be built. The kids growing up here need a team to follow, it is not going to be the blue jackets.

I go to games and whether there is 2,000 or 10,000 I see kids having fun, and that means the fan base will grow in my opinion.

The people don't want to watch the Monsters KJB? You think families that are broke or lost their jobs still don't want to take their family out for a fun night and be able to afford it? Do you think they can afford to take their kids to a Cavs game, Indians or Browns game and sit anywhere but the last row? People do want the Monsters. They do want to be able to bring their 4 kids out and buy them all a hot dog and not have to worry about spending $500.

#7 your argument comparing the Monsters to any other AHL is empty as usual. As you mentioned in earlier posts that the Monsters aren't worth watching, yet you've attended 22 games, and then in another post said they could run the table, you really don't make any sense.

The monsters offer an NHL arena, NHL entertainment that is affordable and fun for families. I'm not a hockey "purist" so I apologize to you NHL hockey purists who won't support the team b/c Colorado calls up players....Fact of the matter is I like hockey and I like good seats but I can't afford to spend NHL prices. I also think the Monsters do a **** of a job with entertainment off the ice. What other AHL team gives you what you get a Monster game? As far as entertainment and quality of the arena?

If you don't like the entertainment, if you don't like the fact that they are "minor league" then don't go. Don't give them one dime of your money. And don't post on this forum. Why would you? Why make us all read your constant negativity? I get mad when they lose, I may post something when I'm ****** off our players get called up, but I don't feel the need to bash the team, front office, building, pricing and everything else every chance I get.

Go Monsters.

AND FURTHER MORE CAN WE WAIT UNTIL MAYBE THE SECOND MONTH OF THE SEASON TO APPOINT THIS TEAM ANOTHER LOSING SEASON???!!! PLEASE???

Did we not just win three in a row before the call-ups?

Let's see how this pans out. Maybe we have another losing season, but my bet is that if we get a couple guys back we have at least a chacne to be a good team.

the only thing I will agree with #7 on is the team winning. Cleveland does love winning teams. If this team could get on a roll it may help bring some of the people who wouldn't normally come out to a game..

Let's hope it happens.

KJB,
I love the AHL, I love hockey, and I love Cleveland. This is my first year as a partial season ticket holder, even though I have attended around 20 games a season, including the first game ever played, every season. I support the AHL. I do NOT want the NHL in Cleveland. As soon as that NHL team gets here, and starts losing, everyone gets annoyed and forgets about them. Then, the NHL and AHL is gone. No Hockey for Cleveland. If you are the host of a CLEVELAND talk show, you need to LOVE CLEVELAND. If you hate the AHL and CLEVELAND move to Pittsburgh or Detroit where they HATE CLEVELAND and HAVE the NHL. Save all your "Cleveland Sucks" crap for some other site. (Prefereably Steelers or Detroit Tigers sites). I love the AHL and the Monsters. I'm sure that alot of Monsters fans do too!

WELL SAID! I agree with EVERY WORD! I love the Monsters, the city, and the entertainment we get. I could not sit in the endzones at an NHL arena for $16. My guess would be more like $30 bucks. I am not buying partial season tickets at $30 a game! I will for $16. The Monsters have won awards for BEST MINOR LEAGUE ENTERTAINMENT! And yes, we have had the best AHL crowds in one game for the past TWO seasons. (ALL OF OUR SEASONS) There is alot to love about Cleveland, hockey, and the Monsters. Again, well said, and thank you for being a TRUE Monsters fan. (Unlike KJB and #7)

YEAH! And if we, say make the playoffs, we ould EASILY sell 10,000 tickets a game in the playoffs. Cleveland LOVES playoff teams, and WINNING teams. If we are even on schedule for a playoff position in February, our attendance will skyrocket to 7,000 a game. Remember last season, when we went on the playoff run, to JUST fall short. We had so many games, where the ENTIRE lower level was FULL! We can support an AHL franchise, maybe not an NHL, but an AHL. I love the Monsters and am GLAD there is hockey in Cleveland.

Monsters4Life - we are very much alike. TRUE MONSTERS FANS!

GO MONSTERS! Big Grin

For those of you who have trouble figuring out how big of a Monsters fan I am, here is some help;

I have a sheet that I use to keep notes about every game that I attend. I take this in a three ring binder to every game I attend.

I keep all my used tickets from this season.

I take pictures at the games with a a digital camera and make videos out of them. You can see tham at www.youtube.com/MonstersHockeyFan20

I make my own show about the Monsters. You can also see that at www.youtue.com/MonstersHockeyFan20 or http://fourthperiod.webnode.com

I forgot, I also blog about the Monsters at www.monstershockey.wordpress.com

Need I say more?

GO MONSTERS!

I'm still looking for an angle to get cheaper tickets for this season. I'll probably look for BOGO or comp tickets on CL or ebay. The price at the window is far too steep for AHL.

I don't think they'll get to the playoffs this year unless something major happens, but I'll still make the trip up 77 to catch them when I have time.

I've given the monsters plenty of chances, but they're just not worth watching (especially at these prices). Gilbert blew it when he signed with the Avs.

Monsters Hockey is back!

I dropped some change on some tickets for my favorite out of town team, but I'll probably still go to several LEM games as the bogo promos and other discounts pop up.

I bought three tickets in Detroit for the Sabres/Wings and they were $25 ea. They're not good seats, but it's good hockey. I'm not sure if glass seats for the monsters are worth $25 (unless they're playing the griffins or moose!)

makes sense doesnt it ? back and forth . your complaining bout how steep ticket prices here are . but your spending way more money when you factor on gas to go to other ahl or nhl games because it's cheaper when really it's not . i think when you said "I'm still looking for an angle to get cheaper tickets" best summed it up. no matter what you trying for an angle .whether if it's using your old student id or some other angle.there's plenty of them out there so use them. but some how i get the feeling that you still looking for an angle doesn't only apply to hockey ticket prices .

With high school football over except for playoffs a few more fans should be showing up. Last Saturday I went to the John Carroll Mount Union football game. Right now I rather be outside then in a arena. But, I will be there Friday for the Marlies and some pop at Heroes, none of that stinking root beer.
