I read the Monster Boards every so often. I have noticed the amount of Monster fans that seem to be hardcore Monster fans, and never visit the the Cavs message boads. It seems like Cleveland, and northeast Ohio in general has alot of hardcore hockey fans.
I was just curious about how you guys became hockey fans, and what seems to be hockey fans first, as opposed to being the usual "all ohio teams, all the time", like me. lol. I enjoy watching any northeast ohio team, and a certain central Ohio team (Go bucks), in any sport, pretty much.
Are the majoirty of you guys fans of the Avalanche fans from CO, or are you guys hardcore cleveland hockey fans?
Just wondering,
Thanks

well my parents acually took me to a game when i was just a baby and when i was two or three i "fell in love" with ed patterson and he was the reason i started to like hockey. i got more and more into the games and ed would talk to me and give me pucks during warmups. ever since then ive gotten into the game more and more i support more teams and i always find a guy to like on the team lol!! hockey is so much fun to watch!!!! expecially when they fight!!!
I've loved the Av's for a while now, but didn't pay that much attention to their affiliates. I bought my Monster's tickers before I knew they were the Av's affiliate. I just love hockey... football, basketball and especially baseball don't seem to have that real need for talent to me, just being in the right place at the right time. hockey on the other hand, you have to use your body and your brain, and tell me the last obese hockey player... not too many. I just think (other than gymnastics) it's the last sport out there that's teaching it's younger participants the importance of hard work and dedication. Not to mention the importance of winning, not just participating. It instills a sence of competition and the importance to strive to be better and not settle for second best.
I got interested in hockey when I was in high school. The school didn't have a team or anything, but I was a pretty physical kid and had a frozen pond in my front yard. The other kids would come over and we'd goon it up. After a couple broken noses, I sat it out and watched real hockey when it was being broadcast on regular television in the late 80s/early 90s.
I remember when the Red Wings got an entire line of former Red Army players after the fall of the Soviet Union. The excitement of watching them square off against the Penguins under Lemeiux was too awesome. It felt like watching history. I'd go to local corner bars to watch games and hear old guys talking about Bobby Orr and Gordie Howe and felt that Federov and Yzerman were people I'd tell young bucks about from a barstool perch.
My dad is a hardcore Browns fan and could never understand my love of hockey (even though I also like football, but I love the Seahawks). My brother being a Pens fan and myself a Wings fan, dad never got involved. He does seem to love all Ohio sports teams (except the Bengals), so I brought him to last Friday's Monsters game. He had a blast and I think he finally gets it. I'll be taking him to plenty of games this season.

my father got us (me & my brother) into hockey and then started playing hockey either on the pond or the local rec. league. as far as the other ohio teams i dont really care. to me hockey is life! and no other sport really matters to me. oh and i'm a big time detroit fan which is kinda ironic cuz the monsters are the av's affiliate. the only time i cheered for the av's was to see ray bourque win a stanley cup before he hung up his skates.

Back in the 60s and early 70s, we'd go to the Cleveland Arena to see the Barons Play. EVERY SUNDAY was after game skate. We'd leave from church and we were each given 50 cents to spend at the game (I think it was moved to $1 right before the barons left). It was our allowance for the week. I think our seats were 50 cents too. I can remember sitting way at the top of the arena in the last couple of rows, Corners usually. I tired of the Indians and Wedge's lack of baseball knowledge. The Browns are set up to bring fans in and not make the playoffs or even get past the first round. The Cavs are overpriced for a season. (I mean for a good seat, I can't invest $10,000 for 2 tickets every year, I drive USED CARS, not BEAMERS) We used to go to Columbus and see the Chill once or twice a year. The Lumberjacks were never exciting to me, we'd go and always be in an end zone, couldn't afford the ticket and treats. So, our youngest started College this fall and we decided to do something together, this was MONSTER HOCKEY. My wife is learning the game, she is becoming a student and understands why they have to fight sometimes (Actually, she likes that part). It is something after 26 years of marriage we could do that either of us hadn't really had much of an interest in in the past. Thanks for asking!

I personally stumbled onto hockey by accident. Back in the days of only 12 or so channels i would sneak into the living room to watch Benny Hill on a Canadian channel when my parents were sleeping and usually have to watch the end of a Leafs game. It was really hard to see the puck on old picture tube t.v.s but i liked the hits and became hooked. Im an odd one here.I dont know 1 other fan in my podunk town.

I remember my mom taking me to some rec league games back in the 80's at a local rink and when we got the Lumberjacks I went to a lot of their games, then the Barons, etc... I just fell in love with the speed of the game and it amazed me what the athletes could do on ice.
As for a favorite NHL team, I don't really have one, but I tend to support whoever our Cleveland team is affiliated with. So I'm getting to know the Av's.
For some reason, I just can't click with the Blue Jackets... I watch some of their games on FSN, but it's just not the same as having a team here in Cleveland.
I follow all of the Cleveland sports teams passionately !

Heck of a game last night, eh?
I left the Buckeye bball game early, came home, turned on the CBJ and we were down 2-1 at the 8 minute mark in the 3rd period. Before you know it, we're up 3-2, then Nash gets the empty net goal with a couple seconds left to make it 4-2. I believe Hitch when he says last nights win was a turning point for the organization.
Sorry, I don't mean to hijack your thread, I think it's the best place for me at this point to say what I had on my mind.
The Chill was the first team I followed, since they were in Columbus. I loved the rowdy atmosphere etc.
It did take a while for me to warm up to the CBJ, but I've been on board for a while now. At least I can say I'm not a bandwagon fan when they actually do make the post season.

i'm a hardcore avs fan for life. (or at least that's what my tattoo artist told me while i was getting my avs tat.) so i always try to pay attention to the affiliates... which isnt always easy. but now espescially with some many great young players showing up all over the pepsi center, i defiantely stated paying more and more attention to the LEM!
It's non-stop action! Who needs constant timeouts for commercials, two minute warnings, freezing the kicker, pitching changes.....the final seconds of a basketball game can bore the bejeesus out of you. When they stop play in hockey, it's usually because two guys are pummeling each other. Used to watch the old Barons and Crusaders in the 70's. Then hockey went away in the 80's and it took some Wings crazed friends from Detroit to get me on board again. It's like an exclusive club, no bandwagon hockey fans in Cleveland!
