Can anyone explain to me what the veterans rule is in the AHL. I have been a hockey fan since I was 6 back when the Cleveland Barons were here. Since i am only 13 now, having hockey back in Cleveland ROCKS!. I love hockey but i still do not understand a few of the leagues rules. So can somebody please help me out..?

Here's the easiest way to explain it...
In the AHL, You can only dress 5 veteran players.
A Veteran player is one who has played 260 games total in the following leagues...
NHL, AHL & European Premier League.
Any combination of those leagues' games add up to 260, makes him a veteran.
Basically, Anyone with 3.5 years of experience in the AHL & NHL combined is a veteran.

the reason they do it is to keep the AHL a developmental league rather than a place for almost-good-enough and retired NHL'ers to play until they turn 65.
