The Monsters staff apologized about missing the deadline to get in on it for this year. It'll probably happen next year and if either team is one that I remotely care about (i.e. - not columbus), I'll be all over it. It is important that an exhibition game sells out if Cleveland does make a play for an NHL team.
Speaking of (which we weren't), wouldn't it be interesting if Cleveland got an expansion and used the Monsters name/logo ala the NHL transition of the Barons?

Cleveland Monsters or Cleveland Lake Monsters would work. I just hope they never EVER name another sports franchise alluding to the Rock and Roll HOF.
Given the nightmare scenario of a wings/cle game, I'd still pull for the wings. the only other sport I follow is football, and I am a die-hard Seahawks fan, I even root for them when they play the Browns (they don't this year, which is nice for me). I really like the Browns.

they'll probably forget to put in for a pre-season game for next season also. if they do get the game, hopefully it will be with a team like detroit or someone from colorados division, i would love to see edmonton in cleveland or even minnesota, but would prefer my red wings. okay we will never get a nhl team, until we can show support for the other sports teams in town and not just when their winning shows that we cant support another major sports team in this town.

The reason they call the team "Lake Erie" is because the North East Ohio cities around Cleveland are growing while Cleveland itself is shrinking. It's better to represent all the North East Ohio cities, rather than just Cleveland which is often accompanied with negative news.
I don't think their intention was to represent the Lake. It's still a Cleveland team.

I'm not sure that's true. Where'd you hear that from? When the Monsters went around on tour for practices, they stayed in North-East Ohio. They didn't practice out on Kelly's Island or in Canada. (Unless you count the first season as one big practice.)
I've seen no representation for the team outside of NE Ohio. So not sure who told you that, but if you got a link to a press release or conference where someone says that, I'd be interested in seeing it. That seems insane.

cant remember where i heard it but i think it was in the press conference when we we're getting a new ahl team, dont quote me on this but "the team name represents the whole lake erie region but the games will be played in cleveland" again dont quote me on this, and yes they did just stay in northeast ohio for their tour.

I remember that comment. Because I remember thinking to myself "there are people in the Akron Area that still think the Lumberjacks exist." Seriously. So maybe they need to do a better job of "representing" the region. Oh well, I'm not complaining. I actually don't mind the name, its grown on me.
